First General Meeting (Summer)

UP Statistical Society had its first Summer General Meeting for the term 09-10 last April 2 at SS 108. The Summer GenMeet was set for the induction of the newly elected Board of Directors and discussion of summer concerns (most especially the summer bagsakan).
Ernest Dominic Buhangin had his last welcome remarks as StatSoc’s President.
Marvin Allan Santos led the prayer while Internal Vice President Kristina Cortel and Internal Committee Chairperson Carmi Lou Peralta hosted the meeting.
This General Meeting was the Board of Directors first step in consulting the members before they head off for their first SemPlan.
First Semester Planning
The First Semester Planning was held last April 11-13 at Villa Pura, Tagaytay. As expected, it was easier to lay the plans out since a consultation from the members was carried through the first Summer GenMeet. There were fewer leisure hours but there was enough to cherish.

Summer General Cleaning
StatSocers cleaned the tambayan last April 18 just before the Bagsakan Days started. The day was hot but the activity was a real success! Thanks for the help of the following:
Jeran Catan. Mazhiel Mercader. Aizel Marie Catan. Paul Michael Almeda. Catherine Gayle Musa. Janmae Djoasis Martinez. Kristine Claire Estrada. Fatima Han. Carmi Lou Peralta.
Second General Meeting (Summer)

For the second time, UP Statistical Society had its General Meeting last April 24 at SS 108 for the purpose of discussing the Summer Bagsakan, Movie Tie-Ups and other concerns.
Paul Michael Almeda had his first welcome remarks as StatSoc’s President.
Karenne Joyce de Padua led the prayer while Carmi Lou Peralta and Aizel Marie Catan of the Internal Committee hosted the meeting.
Bagsakan Days
It was an unexpected event this year that the Freshmen Orientation Program Committee was not recognized by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. This meant uncertainties for the whole summer and maybe, for the whole first semester.
However, despite this circumstance, the Board of Directors decided to continue the yearly “Bagsakan” in case a race for blocks pushes through between the UP Variates and UP StatSoc.
A Summer Bagsakan Constitution was confirmed and this contains the point system, requirement per member, sorting guidelines, special cases and sanctions. Finance Committee Chairperson Erika Joy Valmonte was very generous to have the requirements decreased and the points per unit of item increased.
The Bagsakan Period started from April 27 and ended last May 30. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays were selected as the official bagsakan days for the convenience of the Board of Directors and members as well.
House to House were scheduled every Saturday from May 2 to May 23. The House to House took place at PhilAm, Don Antonio, Kingsville and Boni respectively.
There were also BOD House to House which took place during school days and were also participated by some members.

Freshmen Committee
As earlier said, the Freshmen Orientation Program Committee was not recognized this year. The University Student Council (USC) came to be responsible for the incoming freshmen of the academic year and since they are inexperienced, they asked for help from all willing organizations.
Being one of the steering committees last year, the UP Statistical Society can’t just sit back and do nothing. StatSoc faced the challenge and together with the other organizations, joined the Freshmen Committee for the sake of giving warm welcome to the freshies.
Our organization is under the Publicity Committee. Desiree Halagao and Heverly Bravo are the Publicity Committee Representatives of UP Statistical Society for 2009-2010.
Executive Meeting
An executive meeting was held last May 13 which was attended by the UP School of Statistics Student Council, UP Statistical Society Board of Directors and UP Variates Executive Board at the Council Room.
Important matters like the schedule of activities and Council Bagsakan were discussed.
Regarding the Council Bagsakan, the Council declared a race for blocks between the two organizations in the School of Stat. There was a minimum requirement for each organization that is calculated based on the number of members. Since it is confirmed that there are three blocks for the first semester, the race is on for the block with the most number of students. The Council Bagsakan was scheduled on May 22 any May 30.
Council Bagsakan
After the Council Bagsakan Period last May 30, UP StatSoc won the race and got blocks O1 and O3. Not only did we get two out of three blocks but we also got extra money from extra junks. Hooray!

Tambayan Renovation
The tambayan suffered from the bagsakan days and to treat it for having its job as a storeroom done, the members had it renovated!
Last May 30 started the renovation of the tambayan. The vinyl tiles were replaced by new ones, the interior walls were repainted and the CommComm cabinet was... replaced... :) there’s also a bag counter now!

The renovation ended last June 9.
Post-SemPlan
The Board of Directors gathered again in a Post-SemPlanning last June 5 to 6 at External Chairperson Fatima Han’s Place in Rosewood Pointe Residences, Taguig.

The main reason for the Post-SemPlan was to continue the discussion of important matters and for the planning of the activities, especially those that are freshmen-oriented. The meeting also served as bonding for the officers as they enjoyed walking a hundred mile (hehe), eating Jollibee, Mcdo and Mini Stop foods, swimming and most especially... Ekai’s Magic Sing,

There! Hehe... It maybe a bit late for updating you but I hope that its not yet late for the documentation. I tried to be as straightforward as I can to avoid boring you with every bit details but if you’d like to, you could always ask us for the minutes of the general meetings. As for the other activities, please wait for the Ahype Summer Edition. It will be released on June 25 (1st GenMeet for 1st Sem) and its pdf will be posted after.
